December 2008 – Christmas Cousins

This photo of Aidan and Hannah was taken on Boxing Day at their Uncle Glyn’s house.  Matching ganzies and matching cheeky grins!

November 2008 - Fireworks

This was a memorable evening.  Ryan had found some old fireworks while clearing out so we went down to the beach to set them off.  Aidan thoroughly enjoyed it.

October 2008 – Halloween Again!

Yep, thought I had better stick to the routine and post yet another Halloween pic.

September 2008 – Coastguard Training at West Voe

Thought I had better post this photo as a comparison to the one I posted for May 2006.  Here we have the Coastguard Sikorsky S92, “Oscar Charlie” doing a spot of winch training at West Voe.  This aircraft replaced the Sikorsky S61 pictured in May 2006.

August 2008 - Firestarter

This photo is a reminder of the many, many bonfires that we have had in the past.  This one has Aidan silhouetted in the foreground.

July 2008 – Sunset from Grutness Pier

This photo was taken one evening Aidan, Ryan and myself had gone fishing at Grutness Pier.  The building in the background is Wilsness Terminal, Sumburgh Airport.

June 2008 – Whaddya mean foul?

One of many pictures I have of children falling down around Aidan’s feet.  My apologies to the owner of the child.

May 2008 – Sunset at Sumburgh

This picture was taken from Sumburgh Lighthouse looking across West Voe towards Fitful Head.  You can make out Aidan in the foreground patiently waiting on me!

April 2008 – Coastguard S92

Another airport photo.  This time it is the Coastguard S92 doing a spot of crazy training.

March 2008 – Saab 340 Landing

A frequent occurrence throughout 2008.  Here is a Loganair Saab 340 landing at Sumburgh Airport.

February 2008 – 8 Years on

Here the boy is, blowing out the candles on his 8th birthday.

January 2008 – Up Helly Aa

Picking my favourite photos from 2008 has been extremely difficult and once again I would like to point out that I haven’t chosen these pics for their beauty or technical perfection.  I have chosen each of them because they have at least an element of meaning to me.

To begin with we have Up Helly Aa 2008.  I quite liked the effect of the lights and smoke silhouetting the Guizer Jarl.

December 2007 – School Xmas Concert

The end of another year, another bunch of pictures, a lot of blood, sweat and tears.  To round off this year I have picked Aidan’s School Christmas Concert.  One of very few December 2007 photographs I have.  Singing to the best of his ability, front row, far side (without the hat).

November 2007 – Spooked Siskin

I was walking to the car when I nearly stood on this little guy.  He flew over to the wall and I managed to grab my camera from its bag and snatch a shot just as he was flying away.

October 2007 - Scalloway

We were just leaving Scalloway and decided to pull over to get a couple of photos of the sunset.  I think it was worth it.  Scalloway Castle can be seen dominating the centre of the photo.

September 2007 – West Voe sunrise

This photo was taken at 0630 looking out towards West Voe and Grutness as the sun was beginning to rise.  The sky was filled with colour.  A truly amazing sight and the photo doesn’t do it justice.

2007_09

August 2007 – Peek-a-boo

This photo was taken at the Ness of Burgi, an Iron Age defensive blockhouse.

2007_08

July 2007 – Peerie Spiggie again

Yep, it’s time for another photo taken at Peerie Spiggie on a fine summers night.

2007_07

June 2007 – Fitba’ Crazy

2007 has been a tricky year to choose photos from and June was no different.  I thought I had better include one of Aidan playing for Ness United though.  Here he is going in for the kill.

2007_06

May 2007 – Beach Boy

This was an easy month to choose which photo to use.  This is possibly the favourite picture I have ever taken.  We were at Spiggie Beach just as the sun was going down, casting a lovely light over Aidan.

2007_05

April 2007 – Meal Beach, Burra

Back in the UK again, Aidan and I took a run to Burra so I could take some photos.  Here we have Aidan on Meal Beach looking towards the horizon.  For what I am not entirely sure.

2007_04

March 2007 – Ahoy, Captain!

Here we have Aidan piloting The Belfast out of Russell Harbour in the Bay of Islands.  We managed to catch some lovely fish that was barbecued later that night.

February 2007 – New Zealand Trip

February 2007 saw us setting off for New Zealand on holiday.  This picture was taken in Auckland on the day we arrived.  The bar at the end of this wharf sold some very nice chilled beer!

2007_02

January 2007 – Up Helly Aa

For those of you that don’t know, Up Helly Aa is a fire festival held on the last Tuesday each January in Lerwick, Shetland.  Each year a galley is built and then ceremoniously burned by several thousand men throwing torches into it.

December 2006 – Santa Claus is coming to Scatness

Another year nearly finished and its present-opening time on the 25th of December.

2006_12

November 2006 - Fireworks

Remember, remember the third of November…at least in this case.  The annual Ness Boating Club fireworks night went off with a bang, excuse the pun.

2006_11

October 2006 – Peerie Spiggie

A nice calm, clear day allowed this photo to be taken at Peerie Spiggie.

2006_10

September 2006 – Gone fishing

Here we have Aidan fishing at Grutness as the sun was going down.

2006_09

August 2006 – Feeding da selkies

This day we popped up to Lerwick to see Rory who had been off on his boat catching mackerel.  A seal had been following him around for most of the day and Aidan got the opportunity to feed it.

2006_08

July 2006 – Ness Boating Club Gala Day

July brought some nice weather and the annual Ness Boating Club gala had a lovely warm day.  This photo shows Tigger Aidan with his Uncle Glynny!

2006_07

June 2006 – Tammie Norie time

Every year the Puffins (Tammie Nories) descend on Sumburgh Head for the summer (arriving around April).  Wonderful little critters, I would still like to try one for dinner though.

2006_06

May 2006 – Coastguard training at West Voe

This photo shows the Coastguard doing some winch training at West Voe from a Sikorsky S61.  They later replaced this helicopter with Sikorsky S92’s.

2006_05

April 2006 – Whoops, another quiet month

Yep, you read right.  No piccies for April for some reason.  :(

March 2006 – Snow Scene

March brought with it snow.  Lots of it.  This photo was taken out at the point of Scatness and shows Aidan and a friend climbing back to the top of the hill to sledge down again.

2006_03

February 2006 – Sunrise between Compass Head and Sumburgh Head

This photo was taken from Scatness looking towards Compass Head and Sumburgh Head as the sun was rising.

2006_02

January 2006 – Sunset at Toab

Another year and another sunset to start it off.  This was taken from my parents back garden.

Sophie was over for Christmas 2005 as you can see from this snap taken on Boxing Day.

November 2005 – Aberdeen Trip

In November 2005 we went to Aberdeen for a visit.  Off to Codona’s to spend a fortune as usual, where Aidan got this huge elephant that I had to carry off the plane!

2005_11

October 2005 – Halloween Time Again

October 2005 brought around Halloween again.  Here is Aidan-Skeleton-Boy.

2005_10

September 2005 – Glynno Stag Doo!

Yep, this motley crew were all invited to Glyn’s Stag Doo…and survived.

2005_09

August 2005 – No shutter sounds

Again, another month where no pics were taken.  It could be down to the fact that we had been in Aberdeen for a kilt-fitting in July and I was probably still recoveering!

July 2005 – Grutness Sunset

This photo was taken at the slip at Grutness as the sun was going down.  Looking over towards Sumburgh Airport which you can just make out in the background.

2005_07

June 2005 – Fitful Again

Yet another photo of Fitful taken from Scatness.

2005_06

May 2005 – Aidan at Muckle Spiggie

Aidan paddling at Spiggie Beach as the sun went down.

2005_05

April 2005 – Peerie Spiggie Sunset

Title says it all really.  A nice sunset at Peerie Spiggie.

2005_04

March 2005 – Selkies Galore

Just a quick snap of some seals lying up on the rocks in Lerwick.

2005_03

February 2005 – Clear Air

This photo was taken from almost the same place as the January 2005 image.  A far nicer day though.

2005_02

January 2005 – Winter Weather

The start to 2005 brought some wild weather.  This photo was taken near the end of the runway looking towards Fitful.

December 2004 – Santa Claus is coming to Scatness

What better way to finish off 2004 than with a pic of an excited little boy opening his prezzies on Christmas Day.

2004_12

November 2004 - Zilch

Nope, nothing…again.  For some reason November 2003 and November 2004 were not months to be taking piccies.  Looking ahead, the following years appear to have been more productive.  Stay tuned.

October 2004 – Isle of Colsay

A quiet month for taking photos and really only this picture worth posting.  Taken from the roadside looking down towards Colsay.

2004_10

September 2004 – Sunset over Scatness & Fitful

Another fine night where the sky lit up with many colours as the sun was setting.  This picture was taken from Sumburgh Head, looking down over Scatness towards Fitful Head.

2004_09

August 2004 – Peerie Spiggie Sunset

One of many sunsets at Peerie Spiggie that I have taken over the years.  I can still feel my retinas burning from taking this photo!
